Proud 2 B Black supports local community organizations that work to improve the lives and prospects of young black youth - and thereby the wider communities. As a result of austerity and cuts on public spending, local community organizations were amongst the first to have their funding cut. With unemployment, crime, mental health and suicide affecting black men disproportionately, it's essential that these organizations receive adequate funding.
Everytime a purchase of one of our products is made, all profits go towards a building fund to establish community centres and programmes to develop our youths. Organizations need buldings of their own - as places of refuge, for growth and re-education, in order to work with the young in the community. For far too long organisations have relied on renting buildings from unscrupulous landlords who give notices to quit or increase rents, forcing them to leave. The teaching of life skills, mentoring, business start- ups and proper parenting are desperately needed.
